Kyra Mailki

Kyrai is a lifelong member of the military community—a military spouse, military child, and military mom—who has spent decades championing the needs of service members and their families through hands-on leadership and steadfast support.

Passion areas:

  • Food and financial security for military families
  • Safe, reliable housing
  • Supporting recruitment, retention, and readiness through family-focused policy
  • Building stronger communities through service and connection

Kyra has lived every angle of military life. She’s the daughter of two Army veterans, an Air Force spouse of over two decades, and the proud mom of three sons—two of whom have served in the Army and Navy. Her connection to service runs deep, and for more than 23 years, she’s been a relentless advocate for military families navigating the demands, transitions, and uncertainties of military life.

Throughout that time, Kyra has tackled multiple combat deployments, served through three remote assignments (including her current CONUS remote), and lived the reality of being OCONUS for much of her family’s journey. Her husband has served both as an enlisted special operator and as a commissioned intelligence officer and is now navigating the complex world of military recruiting—a space where Kyra is once again adjusting, learning, and lending her voice to make systems work better for families.

Kyra’s professional impact comes through her decades of community-building and service. She has held formal leadership roles with military-connected nonprofits, served as president of a large spouses’ club, and led programs that benefited tens of thousands of military families. But just as often, she’s found quietly behind the scenes—organizing morale-boosting events, running scholarship programs, filling snack cabinets, or stepping in to help when someone needs a hand. She believes the little things are the big things, and her presence is often the calm, capable force that holds everything together.

Her advocacy is rooted in lived experience: the need for food and financial security, access to safe and stable housing, and the recognition that these basic needs directly impact both recruitment and retention. Kyra wants military families to be seen—not just in crisis, but as the foundation of our nation’s readiness. She brings clarity, humor, and heart to the table, always grounded in a simple motivation: to give back to the community that has shaped every chapter of her life.

At home, Kyra is surrounded by “three baby adult sons” and two senior labradors who don’t seem to know they’re not puppies anymore. She’s happiest when she’s helping—whether that means running errands, tidying a chaotic space, or quietly stepping in when someone needs backup. She’s not big on small talk but could people-watch all day (airports are her favorite). And while sleep might be her greatest aspiration, she suspects there’s a secret club of well-rested people out there just laughing at the rest of us. Still, she shows up—tired but tenacious—ready to do the work that matters most.
