Civilians Supporting Local Military Families

If you are not military-connected, did you know that, on average, military families move every 2.5 years? There are a number of ways that you can help a military family settle into a new hometown. Here are some suggestions:

Connect them with resources.
Every city has its needed resources. Help new families in your area learn about them and feel welcome.

Say hello to new neighbors.
Tried and true acts of kindness go a long way. Consider dropping off a warm meal or inviting the family to the local park. It may seem small to you, but when you are new to town, it can mean everything.

Teach your kids about military life.
It can be tough to be a new kid at a new school, many times over. Educate your children on military life, why families move every 2.5 years, and encourage them to reach out to new students who move to your town.

Donate time and talent.
Find ways to get involved in your hometown and seek out military families to offer support. We all know how difficult it can be to ask for help! If you’re able, donate to help support our mission of building connections for military families. Or, come join us at a volunteer event! We host events throughout the country and can always use support.
