The Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN) seeks to understand the needs of military-connected families and inspire data-informed change. To further this mission, MFAN is currently conducting the 2023 Military Family Support Programming Survey, which is open to all members of military households, including active-duty service members, veterans, spouses, and partners.

Sarah Bumgardner, AAFMAA Director of Partnerships and Member Engagement, spoke with Shanna Smith, Ph.D., the Associate Director of Research at the Military Family Advisory Network to discuss the purpose of the Military Family Support Programming Survey. Dr. Smith holds a Doctor of Business Administration from Walden University, specializing in human resources and strategic planning, a Master of Business Administration from Liberty University, and a Bachelor of Arts in communication from Hardin-Simmons University. She grew up in a military family, and is a military spouse.

MFAN has been conducting this survey since 2014 to better understand what military-connected families think about and need regarding issues that affect them, including childcare, employment, financial readiness, healthcare, and housing.
