MFAN Launches National Survey on Military Family Life

October 02, 2023

Military-connected family members encouraged to share experiences, inspire action through 2023 Military Family Support Programming Survey

WASHINGTON (October 2, 2023) – The Military Family Advisory Network (MFAN), a national nonprofit dedicated to supporting military and veteran families, has fielded the latest iteration of its Military Family Support Programming Survey.

The 2023 Military Family Support Programming Survey, presented by Oracle Health, will be MFAN’s most comprehensive and methodologically robust research effort yet. Approved by an academic Institutional Review Board, the survey collects millions of data points on topics affecting military family life like childcare, employment, family relationships, financial readiness, food insecurity, health and well-being, housing, and military-to-civilian transition.

MFAN’s survey is a critical aspect of our ability to fulfill our mission. Not only does this research set MFAN’s strategic priorities, it sheds light on the things that are working and opportunities that all stakeholders have to enhance how we serve the military and veteran community. I would like to express my gratitude to those who will respond to this survey. Your experiences matter and we are committed to lifting your voices through data.

– Shannon Razsadin, MFAN President and Executive Director

Since 2015, MFAN has conducted this national study every two years to capture diverse perspectives and gain rich insight into the support needs of service, members, veterans, and their families. The data collected not only shapes the narrative around military life but sets the agenda for leaders across the Armed Forces, lawmakers, advocates, and community providers.

MFAN’s research has shaped local and national policy over the years, specifically in the areas of military housing, food insecurity, and well-being. MFAN’s in-house doctoral-level researchers are able to identify macro and micro learnings allowing MFAN and its partners to triage and customize programming appropriately.

MFAN takes a unique approach to understanding and responding to the evolving needs of the military-connected community. Through our highly qualitative survey design, we learn directly from the words of our respondents, complementing the quantitative research led by the Department of Defense. This scientific methodology strengthens MFAN’s data-informed approach as we advise and build collaborative solutions to challenges identified through research.
