Delores Johnson Davis

Ms. Johnson Davis is a former Pentagon senior leader who brings decades of military personnel and quality of life experience to supporting military families through MFAN’s mission.

Delores Johnson Davis was appointed to a senior executive position on August 23, 2015 until her retirement on October 31, 2019. She served as the Senior Professional for Strategic Integration (Human Dimension) in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Manpower & Reserve Affairs). In this capacity, she strategically managed and integrated research, analysis, and studies in support of the Human Dimension and Army People strategy. 

Ms. Johnson Davis was a pioneer in the US Army’s Family Programs development. Her dynamic and visionary leadership resulted in the fielding of a diverse array of family programs essential to the readiness of the fighting force and their families during a period of pivotal change. She changed the way the Department of Defense valued the support provided to families as a critical force multiplier. Ms. Johnson Davis performed strategic engagements internal and external to the Department of Defense to include federal research agencies, science and technology scholars, private organizations, and individuals to determine which projects impact the skills, competence, and resilience of the future warfighter.

Delores’ academic and professional experience within several behavioral disciplines and her career efforts integrating strategy, policy, and resources to deliver effective soldier and family readiness programs and data analytic projects made her uniquely qualified and valued across the Department of Defense.

In addition to a storied career at the Pentagon, Delores’ early career positions include various Army positions in the United States and overseas like Texas Mental Health and Retardation; Executive Director, Shelter for Battered Women, El Paso, TX; Special Education Department, Vernon Parish, LA; and National Clearinghouse of Pretrial Release and Diversion Programs, Washington, DC.

Ms. Johnson Davis received significant professional training from the Defense Leadership and Management Program, as well as completing the Senior Executive Fellows Program at Harvard Kennedy School.

Her service is well recognized, having received honors like the Career Senior Leader Award from the Department of the Army, Award for Innovative Ideas to Support Families of Deployed Soldiers from the Association of Work Life Progress (AWLF), The White Plume (Morale, Recreation and Welfare Award), Finalist for The Stalwart Award – Installation Management Command, and numerous Department of the Army Superior Civilian Service Awards.

Ms. Johnson Davis’ professional memberships include the Association of the United States Army and the National Association of Social Work.

Delores holds a Bachelor of Arts from Averett University, Master of Social Work (MSW) from the University of Maryland Baltimore, and Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from Naval War College.
