Paul Bland

As MFAN’s development manager, Paul plays a critical role in supporting fundraising and stewardship, including prospect identification and research, proposal and grant management, and donor reporting and relations.

With over 8 years of experience in fundraising for the higher education industry, and additional experience in account management and talent acquisition roles in the military space, Paul implements strategic plans to identify and secure new donors and other financial support for the organization.

A U.S. Army veteran, Paul previously served as an Intelligence Analyst with the 525th Military Intelligence Brigade and later with the 18th Airborne Corps, both located at Fort Bragg, NC. Deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2007-2008, Paul was part of the Multi-National Corps/Force Elements that provided intelligence to the entire theatre of operations.

Paul’s most recent fundraising experience comes from his roles as a fundraiser at Miami University (OH). There, he was promoted twice during his 5-year tenure, and most recently served as the Assistant Director of Development for Annual Giving.  In his role, he specialized in supporting the fundraising activities of the athletic department. At Miami, he was an integral part of a team that successfully completed a multi-year, $82.5M campaign, and he led the Miami Athletic Fund, having generated $1.1M+ in funds raised in a year, surpassing the $1M mark for the first time in the organization’s history and 20% higher than any previous year.

As a first-generation college student, Paul holds a AAS in Intelligence Operations from Cochise College (honors distinction), BS in Education from The Ohio State University (summa cum laude) and an MBA and MS in Sport Business Management from the University of Central Florida. He is also certified in Operational Customer Experience Management from the Medallia Institute.

He currently lives in Cleveland, Ohio with his wife Laura, a school-based therapist and independently licensed social worker. Paul and Laura both are both passionate about supporting issues that center around social action. In his spare time, Paul can be found enjoying the outdoors, watching Formula 1 racing, and planning his next home-improvement project.
