Susan Malandrino is a Senior Communications Principal with SAIC, where she leads strategic communications for federal clients working across national security, technology modernization, and public service missions. She brings more than two decades of experience helping organizations communicate clearly, build trust, and navigate complexity, especially during periods of change or crisis
Susan’s career spans global humanitarian organizations, government agencies, and defense partners. She held senior communications and advisory roles with the American Red Cross and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), supporting global leadership during major humanitarian emergencies and international engagements. Her work focused on translating complex humanitarian challenges and research into clear, human-centered communications. She helped decision-makers act, strengthen public trust, and support lifesaving operations around the world.
In the federal space, Susan works closely with military leaders to align strategy, data, and messaging to improve understanding, adoption, and mission readiness. Across her career, she’s brought clarity to complexity and ensured communications are grounded in evidence, empathy, and purpose—an approach that closely aligns with MFAN’s commitment to using data to inform action and improve outcomes for military families.
Susan’s professional work is deeply informed by her personal experience as a longtime Navy spouse before her husband’s retirement in 2023. After many military moves, she understands firsthand the challenges military families face navigating transitions, accessing resources, and maintaining stability. That lived experience shapes both her professional perspective and her commitment to MFAN’s mission.
Susan and her husband have two children and live in Virginia.
