Terms of Service

The Military Family Advisory Network is the authentic voice of the modern military family and the bridge that connects military families to the resources, people, and information they depend on to successfully navigate all phases of military life.

Military Family Advisory Network advisors must be members of a military family. Advisors serve a two-year term and may serve two consecutive terms. The Military Family Advisory Network defines “military family member” as someone whose loved one identifies as a veteran, a member of the National Guard or Reserve, or an active-duty service member of the U.S. military. This definition includes:

  • Survivors or caregivers of a wounded, ill, or injured veteran; of a member of the National Guard or Reserve; or of a service member
  • Spouses or partners of a veteran, reservist, active-duty Guard member, or service member.

MFAN advisors agree to:

  • Serve one two-year term.
  • Attend in-person meetings on the following dates:
    • September 14, 2019
    • January 11, 2020
    • April 18, 2020
    • July 18, 2020
    • October 17, 2020
    • February 6, 2021
    • May 1, 2021
  • Participate in monthly online meetings/conference calls.
  • Share materials and objectives with military networks.
  • Recruit MFAN applicants for subsequent advisory boards.
  • Promote the programs and resources available for service members, veterans, and their families.
  • Represent MFAN at events.
  • Sign a confidentiality agreement.
In return, MFAN advisors will have the opportunity to network with other veterans and military family groups and continually share insights and best practices.
MFAN advisors agree not to:
  • Initiate programs on MFAN’s behalf without the consent of other advisors and the executive director and the approval of the board of directors.
  • Function autonomously outside of the scheduled meetings or interviews to represent MFAN’s interests without prior approval.
  • Act or make decisions on behalf of the organization without prior approval.

When an MFAN advisor is unable to promote the purpose of MFAN or abide by established duties and limitations, it may be necessary for that individual to resign. In addition, it may be necessary to remove an advisor if doing so is in MFAN’s best interest. The following are some reasons an advisor may be removed from MFAN:

  • Acting contrary to MFAN and its mission and goals.
  • Violating the confidentiality agreement.
  • Missing more than one in-person meeting in a year (exceptions may be made in the case of an emergency).
  • Missing more than two Google Hangouts/conference calls in a year (exceptions may be made in the case of an emergency).
  • Engaging in behavior that detracts from MFAN’s mission.
As each term expires, MFAN advisors are invited to continue participating as MFAN advisory board alumni.
